Reduction in painting

Summer workshop on the theme
Reduction in painting - 'Letting Go' or 'Holding On to What Seems Right'

July 11 - 15, 2022

This summer painting course is dedicated to the world of reduction – the "letting go" or "holding on to what seems right".

Together we will go looking along the painter’s path to the question of how much or how little is needed to reach the very essence.

On the one hand we will draw inspiration from our immediate surroundings – from shapes, surfaces and lines that are to be discovered. On the other hand, we will also seek inspiration from within ourselves through partially guided processes. Another path will be explored through movement, which will be stimulated intuitively by the materials used and by our own rhythm.

This process of ours will be guided by the following questions:

  • What role does the composition play?
  • Which materials do I use and why?
  • Which is the right path for me? From "a lot" to "less" or from "nothing" to "enough"?
  • What or which personal values are directly related to my desire for reduction?
  • Does this desire extend beyond painting?

The goal of this course is for each participant to find his or her own way to reduction.

Techniques: ink, watercolour, pigments, collage, drawing
